The press (including punch press and hydraulic press) is a general-purpose press with a compact structure. With a wide range of uses and high production efficiency, the press can be widely used in cutting, punching, blanking, bending, riveting and forming processes. Parts are machined by applying strong pressure to a metal blank to plastically deform and fracture the metal. When the mechanical press is working, the motor drives the large pulley through the V-belt (usually doubles as a flywheel), and drives the crank-slider mechanism through the gear pair and the clutch, so that the slider and the punch go straight down. After the forging work of the mechanical press is completed, the slider travels upward, the clutch is automatically disengaged, and the automatic on the crankshaft is turned on, so that the slider stops near the top dead center.

The press is driven by the motor through the transmission mechanism to apply the process force to the workpiece. The transmission mechanism is a reduction mechanism of belt transmission and gear transmission; the working mechanism is divided into a screw mechanism, a crank connecting rod mechanism and a hydraulic cylinder.

Presses are divided into three categories: screw presses, crank presses and hydraulic presses. Crank presses are also known as mechanical presses.

The screw press has no fixed bottom dead center. For larger die forgings, it can be formed by multiple blows, and it can perform single, continuous and inching. The striking force is related to the deformation of the workpiece. When the deformation is large, the striking force is small, and when the deformation is small (such as cold shock), the striking force is large. In these respects, it is similar to a forging hammer. However, its striking force is closed through the frame, so the work is stable, the vibration is much smaller than that of the forging hammer, and a large foundation is not required.

The lower part of the press is equipped with a forging ejector. The screw press has the functions of various forging machines such as die forging hammer and mechanical press. It has strong versatility and can be used for die forging, blanking, deep drawing and other processes. In addition, the screw press is simple in structure and easy to manufacture, so it is widely used.
